Organizations with hundreds or thousands of printers cannot afford to spend hours adding every printer as a destination in Barr EOM. And they don’t have to. Our software includes the ability to discover printers automatically through two methods.
SNMP Discovery
The Barr EOM SNMP Service discovers printers by either broadcasting on the network or scanning specified ranges of IP addresses. The results of the discovery are presented to the administrator who can choose whether to add some or all the devices as EOM destinations. These immediately become available for having documents routed to them.
Windows Print Server Discovery
If the organization uses Windows print servers to drive print to its devices, Barr EOM can in a matter of seconds discover all the printers and add them as EOM destinations. Additionally, the Windows queues can be automatically converted to use the Barr EOM port monitors, thus ensuring that users who were printing to these queues before, can continue to do so. The only difference is that the documents now pass through Barr EOM, offering the full complement of management and accounting features that come with our software.
