Key Features Key Features

Be proactive with alerts and notifications

With Barr NPM, your Help Desk can discover print issues before users do. Our proactive device management platform makes it easy to monitor printers for errors and get immediate notifications when they occur. This includes common problems such as low supplies, network problems, paper jams and more. End users can also be alerted to the status of their documents. Barr NPM can send e-mails, text messages, or display pop-up notifications on their computers.

Extend document security all the way to the printer

User access is a key part of Barr NPM. Barr NPM tightly controls user rights. This impacts who may print, what, and where, they are permitted to print. To simplify user administration, our software integrates with Microsoft’s Active Directory, as well as other LDAP servers. Barr NPM can be setup by directly referencing existing network users and groups to avoid maintaining separate lists of users and groups.

Track your printer usage and expenses

Routing all of your output through Barr NPM results in a complete print audit trail. Every document managed by the system, every device event, every click by an administrator or user, is logged. Instantly determine individual printing volume, pinpoint printing abuses, inefficiencies and bottlenecks. Whether you need to track where a document was printed, whether it was created via traditional or color printing, how many times a printer jammed or which workflow process kicked off at a particular time, the Barr NPM print audit log provides all the answers.

Set and manage quotas

Barr NPM lets you set print quotas based on users, user groups, and devices. You can setup declining balances that give users a fixed number of dollars each week or month that gets decremented by the cost of each job they print. You can also setup accounts with ascending balances so you can charge for the print that your customers, departments, and end users use.

Automatically bypass ‘down’ printers

Barr NPM features several options for failover printing. Administrators can configure individual failover devices, or groups of printers that back each other up. When a document is submitted, Barr NPM checks the status of the primary or selected output destination device. If the printer it is not available or returns an error, Barr NPM can automatically reroute the document to the alternate device and notify the owner of the change.

If you do not want to implement automated failover, Barr NPM has several manual failover choices. When a printer error occurs, you can notify the document owners and give them a choice of pre-approved alternate devices where the document can be rerouted. Alternatively, Barr NPM administrators can quickly move an entire queue of print jobs (even from multiple users) to another printer. Administrators can redirect print jobs for a number of minutes, hours, or a specific date and time.
