Englewood Hospital upgrades to BARR / RJE for Windows and takes advantage of New Capabilities Situation:
Englewood Hospital has used the BARR / RJE DOS product for many years to retrieve their patient files and internal reports from outsourced mainframes at Siemens Health Services. They enjoyed the reliability and stability of this product immensely, often times forgetting it was there as it rarely required their attention. But, when it came time to upgrade from this DOS-based print station to a Windows-based system, they decided to take a good look around at all their options before they committed to any one vendor.
Solution:
After researching the alternatives, Matthew Gluck, Software Integration Specialist for Englewood, made the recommendation to stay with Barr and upgrade to the Barr Enterprise Print Server with BARR / RJE. Matthew determined that, in addition to the stable mainframe connection and reliable service they’d come to expect from Barr, the upgrade would allow him to automatically route files to his Report Automation System (RAS), a HIPAA-ready electronic document management solution he purchased from DB Technologies a few years ago. In addition, BEPS would also allow him to control reprints by sending files archived on the RAS system back to the enterprise spooler to be reprinted on demand.
According to Matthew, the Print Server provides many things, but he considers the autonomy of the spooler to be one of its best features. Once it is set up to automatically retrieve and route the files coming down from the mainframe, Matthew’s work is finished… for the most part the Print Server “just runs itself.” He has also set up a remote controller through Intel®’s LANDESK, which allows him to check the status of late night jobs from the comfort of his home. Autonomy and ease-of-use were two of the functions he enjoyed with his old DOS RJE product, and he’s even happier with the advanced configurability that the Windows-based Barr Enterprise Print Server provides.
Response:
"Not only could Barr provide the functionality we needed and the stability we'd come to expect, but they could do it for about $35,000 less than their competitors. It was a no-brainer."
