Information Network Corporation Restructures Printing Network With the Help of the Barr Enterprise Print Server

PDF Version (65 KB)

Information Network Corporation (INC) offers claims and administrative information system solutions for managed care organizations (MCO) across the country. Through The INC System, the company provides a number of enterprise system services such as business process consulting, compliance and eligibility assistance, and database management. Administrative and claims processing services are also offered for those clients wanting additional business services on an outsource basis.

You don't get to be an experienced MCO information solutions provider without making some impressive promises. And you don't become a successful one, without delivering on those promises. INC boasts one of the most advanced solutions on the market for accommodating the special needs of government-funded MCOs. According to Jon Bowman, an INC Senior Technical Consultant, The INC System provides powerful computing capability with a minimal capital outlay, as well as, a virtually unlimited data processing capacity.

But perhaps most impressively, it delivers these enhancements with the greatest speed and quality possible, and it allows for modifications and updates to be made immediately when the client needs them. With so much riding on accuracy, and even more on speed, it's easy to see how this company can't afford to let anything keep its system down for any length of time - even when restructuring a printing network.

Enter Barr Systems, Inc. With the help of the Barr Enterprise Print Server and its BARR/NJE module, INC was able to reroute printing traffic from its Open System 390-based headquarters in Phoenix to its parent company, AmeriChoice, in Washington, D.C. And, they were able to get it up and running in just a few hours.

"Because of the level of cooperation we received from Barr support specialists, we were able to get the server up and running in a fraction of the time it would have taken us alone," said Bowman.

According to the SI Specialist, Barr Systems' solution for the SNA Server also provides support for their Host Explorer and web-based 3270 emulator products. He believes that, while flexibility was a key consideration, savings was also a factor. He found the BARR/CHANNEL with ESCON adapter to be less expensive than other comparable solutions.

INC systems specialists worked closely with Barr support analysts to install the remote workstation and connect AmeriChoice's Microsoft SNA Server to the MVS OS/390 host in Phoenix. BARR/SPOOL, the core component of the Enterprise Print Server, was then set up to enable data to pass from the IBM 3745 Front End Processor to a router at the D.C. location via frame relay.

According to Bowman, this solution was not only easy to install, but also solved INC's complex printing problems. "We needed a cost efficient method of obtaining print output from an IBM system where the printer was located remote to the mainframe. Later we needed unattended file transfers... The Barr solution met out needs completely."

Now, with the Barr Enterprise Print Server installed, INC won't have to think twice about sending print jobs instantly between the two cities, a remarkable improvement, considering INC's dedicated pursuit of faster speeds and increased efficiency.
