Barr Systems Announces New Features and Options in Barr Enterprise Print Server 4.1

Gainesville, Fla.-Barr Systems, Inc. announces version 4.1 of the Barr Enterprise Print Server (BEPS), an input/output management solution designed to receive data from multiple sources and direct it to multiple destinations. Close to a year in the making, this updated version of the company's flagship product includes many significant enhancements and useful new features.

Barr now offers an RJE/IP BEPS component that works with Enterprise Extender, IBM's strategic approach to integrating SNA applications into IP networking. Now BARR/NJE or BARR/RJE can connect natively to an IBM mainframe over an IP network, without the need for any special routers or gateways.

BEPS 4.1 also features a redesign of the Print Channel module (it can be installed standalone on a separate computer), BARR/CHANNEL Tape Offload (a software and hardware module that emulates multiple tape drives), and the addition of PCL as an input to the BARR/TRANSFORM option. Customers can now view PCL files right from the spool window and transform them into PostScript or PDF files. Other improvements include faster handling of large files, enhanced performance with large numbers of datasets, support for delimited and fixed length record formats, better printer error handling (including user selected printer retry time), secure IPP printing support and service status indicators in Spool Window.
