Barr Systems Celebrates Groundbreaking of Corporate Headquarters
Gainesville,Fla.-Barr Systems, Inc. is hosting a groundbreaking barbecue picnic celebration Friday, April 19, (not open to public) to launch construction of its new 52,000 square foot corporate headquarters in Gainesville. The property, which will be developed in a park-like setting, consists of 25 acres located at the 2500 block of NW 45th St. in the Millhopper Activity Center.
A lengthy rezoning process through Alachua County was necessary before construction could be started. After a Comprehensive Plan Amendment to expand the Millhopper Activity Center was granted, the project was able to move forward. Len Buffington Associates, who is coordinating the project, said that Perry Construction is scheduled to begin site work by April 19.
The office buildings, designed by Associated Florida Architects, Inc., will be built in two phases and when completed will have more than 100,000 Sq. Ft. to accommodate 200 employees. Phase I will be comprised of four buildings to accommodate Barr Systems’ current 72 employees. Three of these buildings are scheduled for completion in December 1996. The fourth will be completed as the company expands. Similarly, Phase II will include four more buildings and is planned as a later addition for future growth of the company.
Barr Systems, founded in 1978, designs, manufactures, markets and supports PC-based computer products for remote printing and file transfer to mainframe computers. Tony Barr, founder and president, relocated the company from Raleigh, N.C. to Gainesville in 1985 with only four employees. Today, Barr Systems markets its products internationally to Fortune 500 companies, government agencies, universities and financial institutions, and has grown to $12 million in annual sales.
