Barr Systems introduces PRINT370 PCI
Gainesville,Fla.-Barr Systems introduced its new PRINT370 PCI solution for connecting S/370 channel-attached printers remote from the mainframe. This enhanced version of Barr's popular PRINT370 ISA product can drive up to six channel-attached printers simultaneously at speeds only the PCI bus can achieve — especially IPDS printers.
Similar to the ISA version, PRINT370 PCI supports the interlock transfer modes, (DCI Single Tag and DCI High Speed Transfer) but also adds the power of the Data Streaming transfer modes (3.0 and 4.5 Mbps). The printing option depends on the transfer modes and rates the printers support, but in all cases PRINT370 PCI delivers unmatched data transfer rates. For IPDS printers, this solution is especially beneficial. By combining this speed with the flexibility and control delivered by several other Barr products, you can also extend the benefits received from PRINT370 PCI.
Combining PRINT370 PCI with BARR/PRINT for TCP/IP and BARR/RJE will deliver the printing benefits of high-speed, channel-attached printers to UNIX and Windows NT hosts. Many end-user departments have wanted to merge name and address information into large quantities of direct mail letters and print them in-house, but couldn't due to the slow speeds of LAN-attached printers. With the addition of this Barr solution, they now can.
Barr Systems has a limited-time upgrade offer to customers with PRINT370 ISA who want to receive the speed benefits of PRINT370 PCI. Contact Barr Sales Consultants for pricing information.
