Barr Systems announces BARR/ESCON for SNA Server Now in Beta
Gainesville,Fla.-Barr Systems today released BARR/ESCON for SNA Server into beta. This ESCON adapter is the first of Barr's new fiber-optic product line, advancing gateway technology. BARR/ESCON for SNA Server emulates a locally-attached 3174 cluster controller with Microsoft's SNA Server and can be customized for a variety of applications.
The ESCON fiber-optic link, available on all new mainframes, is the strategic interconnection method for IBM’s Enterprise Systems. BARR/ESCON supports higher speed and reliability than the S/390 channel. Now gateways can be located near file servers, instead of on the mainframe floor — and it can be done without a channel extender. In keeping with IBM Future Technology, BARR/ESCON is disaster-proof, and simple to install and configure. As with the proven BARR/CHANNEL products, the server connected through BARR/ESCON also can be added and moved without affecting the mainframe.
"We are dedicated to leading the market by providing a full range of solutions for data communication, designing every product to achieve high-performance, simplicity of operation, and superior reliability," said Anthony J. Barr, founder and president of Barr Systems, Inc. "BARR/ESCON, with its elegant design, is a perfect example of our corporate ideals."
BARR/ESCON will be available for purchase directly from Barr Systems, and also from its authorized dealers worldwide 3Q98, for $9,290. It will include PCI fiber-optic adapter board, drivers, 7-meter (23-foot) fiber-optic cable, online help, and installation manual.
