Barr Systems has Solutions for AFP Printing and Viewing

Gainesville,Fla. - Barr Systems has new offerings for companies that have historically run AFP jobs on large high-speed printers. Barr's AFP solutions were developed to help companies cut costs by simplifying their printing infrastructure-saving money on maintenance and, in some cases, distribution costs. Now these print jobs can be viewed first, and they can be routed to less expensive PostScript and PCL printers.

Migration from Production Printers

BARR/PRINT AFP prints fully composed Advanced Function Presentation (AFP) files on any Windows-compatible printer directly from the Barr Enterprise Print Server. With this solution, companies can migrate from production printers to less expensive network models. The user can view documents as logical pages or physical sheets, and can easily navigate to specific pages and zoom in and out. With BARR/PRINT AFP, users are no longer limited to only one channel printer.

Customers familiar with Barr's original AFP solution might be interested to learn that the latest version of BARR/PRINT AFP supports accurate text rendering using native AFP bitmap fonts. It also provides full text searching, restarting, routing and archiving.

Free AFP Viewer

Another exciting new offering from Barr is the BARR/AFP Viewer. This viewer is a stand alone product that allows users to view AFP files before sending them to production printers. Printing expenses are reduced, and time savings are gained because users can see mistakes in AFP files before printing. This BARR/AFP Viewer product is available as a free download at barrsystems.com/afpviewer.

The BARR/AFP Viewer faithfully renders fully-composed AFP documents (including text, images, graphics and bar codes). It allows sheet-oriented viewing with support for enhanced N-up. It provides quick random page access, even for very large documents, and allows multilevel zooming.
