Barr Systems expands its AFP Print solutions

Gainesville,Fla. - Barr Systems has a new offering for companies that need to switch the AFP line data or mixed-mode data to print on any Windows-compatible printer. Barr's AFP solutions were developed to help companies cut costs by simplifying their printing infrastructure-saving money on maintenance and, in some cases, distribution costs. They allow many sites to completely replace a mainframe/PSF/IPDS infrastructure with inexpensive PCL, PostScript, and PDF technology.

Migration from Production Printers

BARR/PRINT AFP Tools allows users of the BARR/PRINT AFP product to accept line data or mixed-mode data in addition to fully-composed AFP. The resource that directs the composition step, pagedef composition, can then be done automatically on the PC instead of requiring the customer to convert the output of their application on the host before sending it to the Barr Enterprise Print Server (BEPS).

BARR/PRINT AFP Tools eliminates the need to change the JCL on the host to run ACIF in order to send jobs to BARR/PRINT AFP, and possibly eliminate the need for PSF on the host thus reducing software and maintenance costs. It uses genuine IBM ACIF technology.

BARR/PRINT AFP prints fully composed Advanced Function Presentation (AFP) files on any Windows-compatible printer directly from the Barr Enterprise Print Server. The user can view documents as logical pages or physical sheets, and can easily navigate to specific pages and zoom in and out. It supports accurate text rendering using native AFP bitmap fonts, full text searching, restarting, routing and archiving. With BARR/PRINT AFP, users are no longer limited to only one channel printer.
