Barr Systems offers new cost-cutting AFP printing option

Gainesville,Fla. - Barr Systems announces a new offering that gives companies a cost-effective alternative to mainframe technology for end-to-end support for AFP printing. The new product, BARR/COMPOSE AFP, enables the Barr Enterprise Print Server and BARR/PRINT AFP to process line data and mixed-mode data using AFP pagedef composition. Together, Barr's AFP solutions help companies cut costs by simplifying their printing infrastructure-reducing expenses toward maintenance and, in some cases, distribution. These solutions allow many sites to completely replace a mainframe-based infrastructure with inexpensive PCL, PostScript, and PDF technology.

Migration from Production Printers

Sites migrating their mainframe operations to the Barr Enterprise Print Server use BARR/PRINT AFP to print fully-composed AFP data to any Windows-compatible printer. With BARR/PRINT AFP, users are no longer limited to only one channel printer. BARR/COMPOSE AFP now lets users of BARR/PRINT AFP accept line data or mixed-mode data in addition to fully-composed AFP. The resource that directs the composition step, pagedef composition, runs automatically on the PC, eliminating the need for output conversion programming on the host.

"We have added the BARR/COMPOSE AFP option to maximize our customers' investments in host applications and network printers," said Barr Systems' VP of Sales and Marketing, Rana Ayoub Schafer. "Now they can take advantage of their network printers by distributing all their AFP print jobs without changes on the host."
