Barr Systems enhances Barr Enterprise Print Server with data compression and encryption capabilities

Gainesville,Fla. - Barr Systems, Inc. announces a new feature of the Barr Enterprise Print Server that allows data compression and encryption capabilities for sites employing multiple Barr servers. The new feature enables secure data transmission between Barr servers and conserves data transmission times and bandwidth usage.

New Compression and Encryption Feature

The Barr Enterprise Print Server now supports compression and encryption to enhance and secure data transmission between two Barr servers. With the new feature, compressed files are read in by Barr's Print Utility and decompressed as they enter the Spool Window of the remote Barr server. Data can also be compressed as it is written to disk or sent to another computer running BARR/SPOOL. The amount of compression obtained will vary by data type.

The Encryption Key Manager encrypts data that is passed between Barr stations. Encryption ensures the privacy and authenticity of the message as well as the integrity of the message contents. Barr Enterprise Print Server uses algorithms to compress data prior to encryption, eliminating redundant data and improving the robustness of the encryption.
